In power-system operation, synchronizing is a critical step for safe and reliable grid connection. Standards require both:
Line synchronizing: capturing the synchronizing point before closing.
Generator-side synchronizing: coordinating excitation (voltage regulation) and governor control (frequency adjustment) before capture and closing.
Whether automatic or manual, both synchronizing methods must be available to ensure operational flexibility and system safety.
Challenges with Conventional Manual Synchronizing
Manual synchronizing requires monitoring of voltage, frequency, and phase angle across both sides of the circuit. Traditional configurations typically use:
Two voltmeters,
Two frequency meters,
One synchronizing meter (synchronoscope),
One synchro-check relay.
Pain points in practice include:
Low precision and fragility: Many synchronoscopes still use mechanical needle designs, prone to vibration and damage.
High hardware count: Up to four separate meters required, with inconsistent accuracy.
Complexity in Y/Δ conversion: Extra phase-shifting transformers needed; if PT secondary voltage differs from rated, false voltage differences may occur—raising both cost and complexity.
ODES Integrated Manual Synchronizing Solution
ODES developed a highly integrated, protection-grade manual synchronizing unit to address these challenges:
Integrated voltmeter: Measures both sides simultaneously.
Integrated frequency meter: Measures both sides simultaneously.
Integrated synchronoscope: Displays voltage difference, frequency difference, phase angle, and slip frequency.
WT Series Synchro-Check Relay: Provides closing permission when preset limits for angle, voltage, and frequency are met; its contacts are wired into the synchronizing circuit as the permissive signal.
Further development led to a full-function integrated synchronizing device that consolidates all required functions into a single hardware platform.

Advantages
Reduced device count: Fewer discrete meters and components, lowering complexity and procurement cost.
Consistency and reliability: Integrated hardware platform improves accuracy and long-term performance.
Simplified installation: Streamlined wiring and operation, reduced commissioning time.
Flexible adaptation: Supports phase-shift settings and rated-value calibration for diverse applications.
Engineering Value
High reliability: Designed to protection-class standards, with strong immunity to electromagnetic disturbance.
Cost efficiency: Integrated hardware reduces need for compensating components.
Ease of application: Minimal external wiring, simplified panel layout.
Scalability: Compatible with automatic synchronizing systems and supports customization.
At ODES, our approach is built on three principles:
Standardization is the foundation.
Adaptability is the capability.
Delivery is the value.

The ODES manual synchronizing solution is not just a device, but a complete engineering-grade approach:
Rooted in customer operating scenarios.
Designed to protection-class standards for reliability.
Focused on integration and simplification to reduce total ownership cost.
By deeply understanding power-system applications, ODES delivers solutions that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient grid synchronization.
